Vape Coil Guide: All You Need to Know
Like anything and everything, vaping is done by people casually or as a hobby. If you are a casual vaper then there are various starter kits that will suit your needs but for the latter a simple starter kit might not suffice.

What is a Vape Coil?
This can be described as the heart of your vape mod and it is solely responsible for heating the liquid and creating the “smoke” or vapor you exhale. The resistance of the coils depends on the number of wraps of wire, the type of the wire and the gauge. You can use an ohmmeter to measure this resistance. If you want larger smoke clouds and warmer vapor opts for lower resistance coils while high resistance coils will drop the current and produce small clouds of cool vapor.
Despite this being the main thing behind a vape mod the mechanisms are quite simple. The coil setup consists of a simple wire combined with a wicking material. However, there are various types wires and wicking material to choose from and your choice depends on the required vaping experience.
Type of Vape Coils
Whether you are making your own or using a premade coil there are some things you need to consider. The wire and wicking material will have an effect on the cloud and flavour of your vape mod. Different metals have different properties, below are some of the most common metals used to produce vape coils,
Ceramic Coil
Ceramic is a porous material so air can quickly pass through so therefore the draw will be smooth. Ceramic coils are also known to bring out more flavour from the vape liquid. Ceramic coils are great for high powered vape mod because they can handle high-pressure wattages.
Stainless steel coil
Stainless steel is whole another topic because there are various grades of stainless steel available in the market. The 430-grade stainless steel is known for its magnetic properties and is quite long lasting and durable. Stainless steel is one of the most versatile metals.
Using stainless steel coils means less replacement coils but again this depends on your usage.
Titanium Coil
These wires are quite soft for a metal land is malleable so making a coil without hurting yourself is quite easy. However, they are more expensive than stainless steel wires, but this hasn’t stopped the popularity of titanium. Users of titanium coils state that the taste is quite crisp and clean but there has also been controversy as to how safe it is.

Kanthal Coil
This material is a compound of chromium, iron and aluminium is quite a popular material for both homemade and pre-made coils. It is known for the massive clouds it can make due to the less ramp up time. Similar to titanium, Kanthal is also easy to mould and coil.
These are some of the main types of metals used to make vape coils. Some other types include nichrome and nickel. When making a choice make sure that you ask someone in a vape shop to help you decide if you’ve just gotten into vaping.
